Ever wonder if your site made it in Google back when they first started?
Google just put up a nostalgia page featuring their oldest index. It’s a full featured search page, returning the crawled web pages in the year 2001. To my surprise, searching for my last name revealed my good old domain name as the #1 result! Back then, SEO techniques weren’t invented, so I didn’t even know how to be on top of their search result list. My site was just up and available. Apparently for Google, that was good enough.

Very cool. I think. OK, a little bit scary too. Firm proof that once you put something out there on the Internet, it stays.

hi Rudy,
Wow, what a blast from the past. I just clicked through and did a couple of searches myself. Interesting to get a glimpse of the internet as it existed in 2001.
This will also teach me to be a little faster reading your posts. I apparently just made it in under the wire since the Google page has a note saying “This page will not be available after tomorrow” (november 1). Check it out now if you want to see it!

PS. I just checked google (current) and you’re no longer on page 1 for “Amid”. Too bad we can’t turn back time… You are number one for “rudy amid” though! Congrats!

Hey Steve,
Yeah. There are more sites out there with better PageRank than mine, so my last name “Amid” goes to them first.
It’s one of those days that I wish I have a totally unique last name like “Uberschwitzer”.
