Lunch Bits - Edition 21

July 31st, 2008 · 4 Comments

We went to California Pizza Kitchen yesterday.  We also saw The Dark Knight in IMAX theater Irvine Spectrum.  It was a warm sunny day when we talked about:

  • The Dark Knight: we all like this new version of Batman, adapted from Frank Miller’s comics.
  • Heath Ledger is potentially an Oscar nominee, maybe winner for his role as The Joker.
  • Not watching the Olympics 2008.  Too many world records broken.  Way too commercialized.
  • Chinese TV satellite feed possibly broadcast the opening/closing ceremonies live.  Unlike their world counterparts.  Even if it’s live, there will be 10-seconds delay and censorship imposed by the Chinese government.
  • The use of the words “Sir” or “Ma’am”.  It’s polite, but results may vary.  some people like it, some people don’t.
  • The IMAX Experience: amazing ground pounding sound, huge dramatic screen with stunning detail, breathtaking cinematography with the sweeping aerial shots of the sky scraper.
  • The movie’s Gotham City is actually a mixture of Chicago and London.

I can’t wait to see this in an IMAX Theatre. Especially now that I’ve seen it and I won’t get too distracted by the beauty of IMAX to understand what’s going on.

I’ll probably still watch the Olympics because it’s not the athletes’ fault the media and the people organising the Olympics are a-holes. And I hope Canada wins big and finally rids us of the Johnson debacle.

I’m not overly sensitive with things that relate to me. You can call me Sir or Ma’am and chances are, I’ll smile at you all the same.

how was the Imax experience Rudy? I’ve never been to one and was thinking about going their for the next Transformers which is due for release next year. If their is a film thats meant to be seen in the Imax experience its going to be this one.

The IMAX experience is definitely worth the extra bucks. In The Dark Knight, there were many sweeping panoramic scenes that were just breathtaking. It really did feel like Batman was on top of the world. A very satisfying experience.

My only complaint was the subwoofers cranked up too high. Some of the scenes rumbled so much, I could barely hear the dialogues.

I saw it again, this time in a regular theatre. I can say for sure IMAX is the way to go.
